The Draft First Round Thoughts
Our lead defensive back Tom Mann adds his thoughts on the first round of the recent NFL Draft.
Fave pick
Jared Verse, Rams
With a mean first step and some of the best power and explosion from an edge in this class, it doesn’t take too much of step to see what the Rams are trying to replace on their defensive front. Violent hands and a with a suite of moves already in his arsenal, the Rams get a great player at #19 who’ll play whistle to whistle through all four quarters.
Least fave
Chop Robinson, Miami
While not as polished as some in this class, Robinson brings an incredible frame and athleticism to the party. Miami will be betting on their coaching, but he was more likely a second-round talent. Having spent capital on Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, and recently signing Shaq Barrett, there were most certainly other prospects available with a better fit and pedigree.
Biggest Reach
Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
With perhaps the weakest QB room in the league, injecting more talent to the position was not a surprise. Taking the Duck and former Tiger QB seems like a panic move, with perhaps the thought of their divisional rival and QB needy Raiders at the next pick getting him on their minds.
Biggest Steal
Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears
With ability at every level of the field, a knack for winning 50/50 balls, and the ability to play outside and in, Odunze will have an excellent chance to make an impact year one. With Keenan Allen and DJ Moore already aboard, the Bears have completely retooled the widouts in a short space of time, and having him fall into their lap at #9 with no extra moves? Windy City should be happy with their first round.
