Michael Johnson features at GB x CFL Combine

Cats’ wide receiver, Michael Johnson was one of the lucky few to get the opportunity to participate at the GB x CFL Combine earlier in February.

The GB x CFL Combine, presented by PlayerLayer, evaluated the athletes’ athletic ability through combine drills (laser-timed 40 yard dash, vertical and broad jump, pro-agility and three cone drill, bench press) as well as positional drills on the field.

Fifty athletes were selected following consultation with BAFA National Programme Coaches and CFL executives to find players who best fit the profile of draft prospects – both for this year’s combine, and for future talent identification.

Michael Johnson joined the Cats in 2019 and has been a continual standout at Wide Receiver since very early in his career with Cambridgeshire. After a successful university career with the UEA Pirates he joined the Cats, going on to lead the team in receptions (45), yards (806) and touchdowns (13, plus one kickoff return TD) in 2023, also netting him both the Offensive and Team MVP awards.

When asked for his thoughts on how the combine went, Michael told us, “It was a great experience at the GB x CFL combine getting to showcase my ability alongside the best athletes in the country. The invite was a result of my hard work and the success I’ve had at the Cats over the last few years.

“I’m pleased with my numbers however, there is always room to improve and I will continue to do so in preparation for the 2024 season.”

There’s still time to join Michael and the rest of the Cats for the 2024 campaign: find out more and join us today.
