5 teams, 10 games, 18 weeks. As promised, BAFA released the fixtures for the coming year. It’s definitely shaping up to be a great year. Some interesting things to note; our season is book-ended with home games, we aren’t playing anyone back to back, we don’t have three consecutive games. These details may seem insignificant. But in previous years, we have played teams back to back which has made it difficult for player availability to play in both games. We have played as many as 4 consecutive games which has led to a high rate of attrition through injuries, as well as losing momentum by having 3 or 4 consecutive weeks in training. The first and last games of the season are often the most meaningful. Having homefield advantage for both is a bonus.
We held our first kitted practice today. For many returning players, it was a welcome break from the conditioning to get back into the swing of things. For our rookies and new joiners, it gave them a chance to experience kitted practice at the Cats for the first time. Whilst it is entertaining for players to make bone crunching tackles, player safety is our top priority. Therefore, our coaches designed their drills and planned their time with players in positional groups accordingly. Only 11 more weeks until our first game. We must be sure that we can hit correctly and with a high level of violence.
